A-LIST ALL AREAS

InStyle (November 2009)

Pssst! Want a sneaky peek behind beauty’s most glamorous shoots? InStyle invites you to join the hottest hair and make-up pros as they weave their magic and reveal the insider tricks that make our favourite A-listers look so gorgeous…

BEHIND THE SCENES WITH…

Madonna and Shu Uemura’s US artistic director Gina Brooke

“This was a touch-up while on tour. I wanted her to look like herself. Madonna has reinvented herself so many times – this is Madonna being Madonna. I think she looks younger on this tour than on any other we’ve done together.”

MADONNA’S MAKE-UP AT WORK

“Madonna will experiment with anything. I can say, ‘Hey, I want to put diamonds on your eyes, but they may fall off’ and she’ll be like, ‘Sure! I’ll take that risk’.”

AT HOME

“Madonna wears minimal make-up. When I get her ready to go out for dinner, I use just a little bit of concealer, blush, lipstick and mascara.”

GINA’S STAR BUY

“Shu Uemura’s Classic Cleansing Oil – it’s one of my favourites. I always tell my assistants: ‘You must have a cleansing oil, because at some point during the shoot, we’re gonna use it!’ When I worked with David Beckham on the Giorgio Armani campaign, I used a little all over his body.”

USE IT TO…

Give eyes a sheen “I use it as eyeshadow – it’s something different and it looks really natural and beautiful.”

De-gunk your concealer “Mix a tiny drop with your concealer to give better coverage.”

Highlight your skin “Apply it on your cheekbones and also down the bridge of the nose – it gives a luminance to the skin.”
